Dear Church Family and Friends,

For almost five years now, Cornerstone has sought partnerships with ministries that have helped us reach out to families that are affected by disabilities. Did you know that one in three people in Alabama are affected by disability? Even in our own church family, we are learning to minister to people who are suffering and facing life-changing diagnoses that are changing their lives forever. Many of you are helping in a significant way to lead our congregation to more effectively minister to our church body and our community.

For the past several years Cornerstone has had two partnerships that have been a great blessing to us and Lord willing to our community. Those partnerships have been Joni and Friends and Luke 5 Ministries. If you have not gotten a chance to learn about Luke 5 or even go on a hike, you need to check it out! Please contact Dave Winebrener for more information. They are doing some great work and helping to bless some families with some incredible outdoor experiences. They just got some new equipment in that will enable them to serve more smaller hikers while out on the trail.

Additionally, for the past four summers, Cornerstone has had the opportunity to go and serve with the Joni and Friends Family Retreat at Camp McDowell in Nauvoo, Alabama. This has been a great way that we have not only been able to serve as a church family but also make contacts in our community and learn better skills to reach those affected by disability and love them in Jesus' name.

Through Joni and Friends, Cornerstone was able to build some significant relationships with their leadership and we helped to get an office started in Alabama. However, that relationship is changing this year as we are not shifting our vision, but we are changing our partnership to now serve alongside Quiet Waters.

The mission of Quiet Waters is to glorify God as they come alongside Christ-honoring churches to serve people living with disabilities, diseases, and disorders. Their vision is for the world to see Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, as the Body of Christ offers gospel-driven retreats, respite, and restoration to all who are suffering.

Quiet Waters

vision is for the world to see Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, as the Body of Christ offers gospel-driven retreats, respite, and restoration to all who are suffering.

What is great about this new partnership is that even though it is a new ministry, we are partnering with some familiar faces. The Lord has called Martie Kwasny and Victoria Benson to help lead this new endeavor. They will be continuing the mission here in the Southeast. Quiet Waters will also be offering a family retreat at Camp McDowell this summer. The missions committee’s and Session’s desire to focus our resources and partnerships on missions organizations that include a discipleship and counseling aspect along with the ministry to meet practical needs, which is very in line with Quiet Waters. If you have any further questions, please contact Paul Wendorf.

To that end, we are taking a group back to serve this summer at Family Retreat on June 8-13. There will be an interest meeting on Sunday, March 2 after the second service in the FLC. If you are interested, please reach out to Morgan High for more information and to sign up.
