Pastor's Corner - Sunday School Returns!

Dear Friends,

Cornerstone began meeting on Sunday mornings in May of 2013. Hard to believe this May we will celebrate 8 years as a particularized church! Praise God! I am thankful to be serving as your pastor for seven years now. It has been a joy!

When Cornerstone began meeting in 2013, we had the opportunity to share space with First Cumberland Presbyterian Church downtown in the Five Points area. Because of the facility and the shared space, Cornerstone was able to begin Sunday School right away.

Now if you have ever read any church planting strategy books, one of the things they will tell you not to do is begin Sunday School right away. Well, against all odds, that is what Cornerstone did and from the very beginning, a strong discipleship focus through Sunday School was ingrained into the DNA of our church. It is a huge part of who we are, where we have been and where we are going. Before the pandemic we are having upwards of 87% of worship attendance in Sunday School!

On Sunday, March 14th, we will resume Sunday School! It will be one year to the Sunday on March 14th that we suspended Sunday School due to the pandemic. The Session is very excited to be reinstituting Sunday School because of our foundational commitment to discipleship and the fellowship of God's people.

When we start back, things will look a little different. The ministry staff has been working hard to make sure we have appropriate protocols and space to effectively disciple our adults and children. Believe it or not, during the pandemic, we have grown as a church! The Lord has added more students and children, therefore, more space is going to be needed to accommodate everyone.

The children will gather on the 2nd floor in various rooms in the children's ministry area. The middle school (grades 6th-8th) and high school (grades 9th-12th) will meet separately in the classrooms on the first floor. The adults will gather in the fellowship hall for one single class. As the pandemic wanes and we get back in our new Sunday routine, we look forward to being able to have multiple adult classes.

The youth and adults will be studying the Apostles Creed. It is vital that the church learn and study the creeds of the early church. This will be an important time to go phrase by phrase into this important summary of the Christian faith. Cornerstone is blessed with many wonderful teachers and I'm excited that you will get to hear from them during this time.

Our children will be using the "Show Me Jesus" Curriculum by Great Commission Publications. Mrs. Paige is still looking for teachers and helpers to serve our children, preschool to 6th grade. If you are interested in serving, please contact her.

All this is very exciting! Please continue to pray for Cornerstone as we seek to be a community of Christ followers who worship, grow and serve together to glorify God in Huntsville and throughout the world! See you Sunday!

By His Grace and to His Praise,

Wilson

In preparation for the sermon:  “We are not our own; therefore, neither our reason nor our will should dominate our plans and actions. We are not our own; therefore, let us not make the gratification of the flesh our end. We are not our own; therefore as much as possible, let us forget ourselves and our own interests. Rather, we are God’s. … Therefore, let us live and die to Him. We are God’s. … Therefore, let His wisdom and His will govern all our actions. We are God’s. … Therefore, let us — in every way in all our lives — run to Him as our only proper end.”  - John Calvin
