Pastor's Corner - Love Your Neighbor

Dear Friends,

I have a confession to make ... I don't like wearing a mask. It makes me uncomfortable and I've even succumb to "maskne" and had to get medicine.

Nevertheless, as much as I dislike masks, what I like more is corporate worship. I LOVE people and I especially LOVE getting together with my church family each Lord's Day for worship. It is one of the great privileges of my life to preach the Gospel and every day I thank God that I have the incredible opportunity to do it at Cornerstone.

With that said, I don't want us to stop! God is blessing Cornerstone! He has been gracious to protect our flock and watch over our gatherings each Wednesday and Sunday. So far this Fall, we have been very fortunate and there have been no reported cases of exposures due to Cornerstone gatherings. HOWEVER, we have had several members who have contracted the virus and had significant symptoms. To be clear, those who have had COVID-19 have followed the CDC protocols and have not exposed anyone at church. But we still must be vigilant!

Over the past few weeks, we have welcomed more and more people back to in-person worship. This past Sunday was our largest attended Sunday during the pandemic. As exciting as this is, our current building is simply not designed for us to social distance well. More people in the building means closer contact for people.

As I'm sure you are aware, COVID-19 is not going away. In fact, it seems to be making the Fall/Winter comeback that many health officials predicted. On Thursday, Governor Ivey extended the facial covering health order. While there are exceptions to this order, we, as a body of Christ, must be vigilant to protect one another and so following this counsel is one way for us to do that. The physicians in our congregation also believe this is still a wise course of action for Cornerstone.

All of this information leads me to encourage you that your Session is still "asking" everyone to wear a mask on Sunday mornings while in the building

We are simply doing this to love our neighbor and hopefully mitigate any spread that might happen at church.

We also want more and more people to keep coming to worship and to be fed by the means of grace. We simply do not have an adequate building to space out like we need so face coverings are our best option.

Please continue to pray that God would bless our ministry, our worship and our gatherings.

See you Sunday!

By His grace and to His praise,

Pastor Wilson
