Pastor's Corner - Cornerstone Happenings

Dear Friends,

There are several things happening in the life of our church that I'm excited to tell you about.
Summer Mission Trip Informational Meeting.  I am excited to lead the very first mission trip of Cornerstone this summer to the Yakama Indian Reservation in Washington State. Cornerstone will be partnering with Sacred Road Ministries to join in the Gospel ministry that has been taking place there for the last 11 years. I would love for you to join me for the information meeting on Sunday, November 16th after Sunday School to hear more about this opportunity.
Thanksgiving Celebration Lunch.  Cornerstone loves to fellowship! Therefore, please join us for a church-wide lunch at Monte Sano lodge after Sunday morning services on Sunday, November 23rd. This would be a great opportunity to invite folks to join us for a meal and fellowship.
Congregational Meeting, December 7th.  The Session has called a congregational meeting for Sunday, December 7th immediately following the worship service for the purpose of electing new officers to serve at Cornerstone. Each member will be receiving an official notice in the mail to remind you of this important meeting and to list the slate of men standing for election. What a blessing it is that the Lord has brought us to this moment in the life of our congregation. Our God and Father has been gracious to raise up men to serve and lead us. Please be in prayer for our church, these men, and the congregational meeting.
Advent Sermon Series.  It is the most wonderful time of the year ... coming soon! (I can't believe it is almost here!) On Sunday, November 30th we will begin a Christmas Sermon Series on "The Prophecy of Christmas."What is Advent?  The word advent comes from the Latin word adventus which means "the coming".  The Christian Season of Advent starts 4 weeks before Christmas and serves as preparation time and celebration for the birth of Jesus.  Advent looks back at the incarnation but looks forward to the 2nd coming of our Lord.  Advent is all about anticipation.  There is no better way to “anticipate” Christ than to spend time in worship as a family. The Prophecy of Christmas.  The Old Testament is filled with prophecies about the birth of Jesus.  “He will crush the head of the serpent,” “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and we will call Him Immanuel,” “A shoot from the stump of Jesse,” “For to us a child is born,” “He will reign on David’s throne,” “His kingdom will have no end.”   What do these prophecies mean? What do they mean for our celebration of Christmas this year?Join us for this season of advent as we celebrate the His birth ... foretold!  This advent sermon series will culminate on Christmas Eve with a special worship service as a church family.

by His grace and to His praise,

Wilson
