Dear Friends,
We are now in our third week of ABOUNDING! Last week I had the joy and privilege to preach on ABOUNDING in Generosity. I'll have to admit, I was nervous - but God was faithful! I really enjoyed getting to explore the theme of generosity through this church in Corinth that Paul was challenging to help meet the needs of believers in other areas of the ancient world. Paul's instruction to the Corinthians is a wonderful exhortation to us to consider our generosity as a church and as individuals and to consider how God is calling us to think about generosity and practice generosity.
Very rarely do I do this but I preached a 10 point sermon! Thank you for willingness to engage and learn from the text. The passage on generosity was from 2 Corinthians 9:6-15. I would like to briefly share those 10 points with you and encourage you to examine the Scriptures for yourself and consider if these things are true and how are they true for your life. Generosity is a good investment strategy! (v.6) Generosity should be intentional (v.7) Generosity is to be done cheerfully (v.7) Generosity is how God calls us to good works (v.8) Generosity is a big part of spiritual growth (v.8) Generosity is a core attribute of God (v.9) Generosity is how we fulfill the Great Commission (v.10) Generosity produces thanksgiving to God (vv.11-12) Generosity brings glory to God (v.13) Generosity is at the heart of the Gospel (v.15) For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. (2 Corinthians 8:9 NIV11)
