Pastor's Corner

Dear Church Family and Friends,

It has been a tough week around our country and our world with atrocities in Ukraine, Buffalo, NY, and now Uvalde, TX. There are no words, no policies and no mere acts of men that can easy the pain and suffering of so many. All we can do is cry out to the LORD, "Mercy!"

The Scriptures actually give us words of lament in these situations. I'm thankful to God for the language of Scripture to help us wrestle through these hard things.

  • Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry come to you! Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call!  (Psalm 102:1–2 ESV)
  • For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for a comforter is far from me, one to revive my spirit; my children are desolate, for the enemy has prevailed.  (Lamentations 1:16 ESV)
  • My eyes will flow without ceasing, without respite, until the LORD from heaven looks down and sees; my eyes cause me grief at the fate of all the daughters of my city.  (Lamentations 3:49–51 ESV)
  • Have mercy on me, O God.  (Psalm 51:1 ESV)

These places and more in the Scripture remind us that we live in a fallen and broken world that is in desperate need of redemption. So what do we do? How can we be a part of the redeeming work of Jesus?

  • weep with those who weep  (Romans 12:15 ESV)
  • Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.  (Matthew 5:4 ESV)
  • He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.  (Revelation 21:4 ESV)

See you Sunday.

By His Grace and to His Praise,

Pastor Wilson

P.S. Here is a hymn of lament.
