Dear Cornerstone Family:

Late last week, we all received news of the passing into glory of two men, Tim Keller and Harry Reeder, who had a tremendous impact on the PCA and God's Kingdom all over the world. These men both pastored their respective congregations for decades and were responsible for the planting of churches in their own communities and through their influence, all over the United States and beyond. As authors and speakers, they proclaimed the Gospel to millions through their writings, radio, podcasts, and conferences. When Audrey and I were in pre-marital counseling in the year 2000, our pastor gave us some bootleg cassette tapes (still have them!) of Tim Keller speaking on marriage as part of our homework. This was long before the release of his book "The Meaning of Marriage", which is one of his many books that have been an encouragement to me in life and ministry. Not long after that, we moved to Charlotte for seminary, right after Harry Reeder had left the church he planted there and moved to Briarwood in Birmingham. During that time in seminary, I began to hear stories of his ministry and since then have admired his leadership in our denomination, as well as his leadership in his home as I have gotten to know his son Ike over the years.

It's difficult to sum up adequately the ministries of both of these men, who loved Jesus and the Church so well, and who are now rejoicing in the presence of our Savior. We give thanks for their life and ministry and praise God for them. Please continue to pray for their families and congregations.

Below there are articles linked where various pastors and others have written some wonderful tributes reflecting on the lives of these two pastors.

Blessings,

This Sunday's Sermon:

From World’s End to Enthroned

Psalm 61

A Letter of Thanks to the Congregation

Dear Cornerstone,

I want to thank Cornerstone Presbyterian Church for being a church home to me as I commuted from Huntsville to care for my mom, a resident at Redstone Village. You all opened your hearts and many of you opened your homes to me and provided comfort, advise, and meals as I needed them. Cornerstone was a solace, my worship home in Huntsville.

My mom, Ria Pulles turns 100 years old today. Earlier this week she sustained a fall, shattering her femur. Surgery was not advised, so we moved her to the inpatient hospice across the street from Redstone Village where her pain could be managed and comfort measures administered. As planned, nearly my whole family has gathered this weekend to celebrate mom. When she was 95, she became a believer in the Lord Jesus and His salvation and today her entrance into HIs arms is imminent. Thank you, Cornerstone, for everything.
