Dear Church Family and Friends,

Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him; sing praises to him, tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done. (1 Chronicles 16:8–12 ESV)

Happy Thanksgiving! We have much to be thankful for as we reflect on God’s goodness this time of year.

From this passage above, I love how David points out in this song of thanksgiving how we are to give thanks to the LORD in a number of different ways.

  • We give thanks by calling upon the name of the LORD!

  • We give thanks by making known the deeds of the LORD and telling of His wondrous works!

  • We give thanks by by singing praise to the LORD!

  • We give thanks to the LORD by seeking Him continually in worship!

  • We give thanks by remembering — remember what He has done!

It is this last form of thanksgiving that I want us to focus on: remembering.

This Sunday will be an important Sunday as we remember an initiative that started back in 2018. It was then that Lord provided property for Cornerstone downtown. It was then that we saw the Lord begin to move our hearts toward being more centrally located downtown to fulfill out ministry. It was in 2020 that we began a generosity initiative to build on our property downtown. We named this initiative ABOUNDING, in Christ and for the city. We desired to have a home where we could worship, grow, and serve together for generations to come.

But, as the Proverbs says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 ESV) In 2021 God did something we did not expect or imagine — He redirected our steps to a new home at 11413 McClung Ave. What we thought was a disappointment, has turned out to be God’s lavish blessings. What we thought was a compromise, has turned out to be the LORD doing far more abundantly that we had asked or imagine.

  • The LORD gave us 1 acre downtown … we now have 6.5 acres in Blossomwood.

  • We had designed a facility with limited fellowship and activity space … we now have an entire facility for fellowship and activities.

  • There was little parking downtown on site … we now have ample space to expand parking.

There are so many other things we could point to but the point is, GIVE THANKS the LORD! God has provided super-abundantly for Cornerstone! Praise Him!

This Sunday we will be giving thanks and refreshing the ABOUNDING vision. We want to invite you to come along as we follow the LORD on this journey. You will have an opportunity to learn more about this initiative and be invited to participate if you have not already. Please be in prayer as we seek to honor the LORD in the resources He has proved for us.

By way of the reminder, for Cornerstone members, we have a brief called congregational meeting at 9:45am.

See you Sunday!

By His grace and to His praise,

Pastor Wilson
