Pastor's Corner - Ordinary Means of Grace

Dear Friends,If we long for our churches to experience more of this awakening power in the gospel, the remedy is not to invent our own delivery systems for God’s grace. The remedy might be found in correcting our neglect or misuse or corruption of God’s age-old means of grace. We do not need to improve on God’s methods. We might need to engage with God’s methods more reverently and humbly than we ever have before. Those are the words from pastor Ray Ortlund's article that is linked below. What are God's ordinary delivery systems whereby He extends His grace and love and mercy into our lives? I believe the Scriptures teach, that age-old, ordinary means of grace are the preaching of the Word, Sacraments, prayer and fellowship. Or as Luke puts it in Acts 2:42, devotion to the Apostles teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. This is my prayer for Cornerstone - that we would be an ordinary means of grace church, that we would not look to emulate the world, but we would strive to emulate Christ. Until Jesus returns, I pray that we would be known as a faithful church that loves the Word of God and models the example left by the early church not only for 5 years but for 105 years!Would you join me in praising God for His faithfulness to Cornerstone these past five years and would you join me in praying that God would keep us faithful to these things for the next 5, 10, 50 years! May we never drift away from the things that God has promised to use in His Word as the awakening power of the Gospel in His Church. As one of my friends recently told me, "Why wouldn't we stick to the things God has promised in His Word He will bless?"See you Sunday!Your friend and pastor,Wilson

  • In preparation for the sermon:   “Worship is the right, fitting, and delightful response of moral beings - angelic and human - to God the Creator, Redeemer, and Consummator, for who He is as one eternal God in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and for what He has done in creation and redemption, and for what He will do in the coming consummation, to whom be all praise and glory, now and forever, world without end. Amen.” - Jonathan Gibson
