Pastor's Corner - Holy Week

Dear Friends,This week we begin the most important week in the life of the Church, Holy Week. The week is marked by Jesus's triumphal entry into Jerusalem and ends with Him triumphing over sin and death on the cross. This week should be more to us than Christmas! Perhaps we could start thinking of it this way?To that end, this Easter we will take a little different approach in our sermon series. We will continue in our series on Revelation and use chapter 4 as our text to see Jesus as He really is right now, exalted and on the throne of heaven ruling and reigning over His Church and His World.This Easter, I want to challenge you and myself to take the Bible's encouragement to see beyond the surface of this physical world - to go beyond what we can see to what is unseen. Let us "look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18 ESV) "For we walk by faith, not by sight! (2 Cor. 5:7). Why do we need to do this at Easter time? Because there is a reality that awaits us that is unseen. It's called heaven. That is where Jesus is. That is where home is. That is the Promised Land for which we are bound. That is the ultimate reality of realities. There will be a new heaven and a new earth and Jesus will be the visible presence of that place. He will be there on a throne radiating beauty and joy and happiness unlike anything we have ever know.Therefore, this Easter, let's prepare for that! Let's worship our risen Savior who is now on a throne because He sat down at His Father's right hand and has declared it to be finished. Is that not worthy of our all praise?!

In preparation for the sermon: “The Book of Revelation wages war on the reductionism that chokes awe. Among it’s most pervasive motifs is that those who see only the surface, who explain human history and experience merely in terms of observable (physical, economic, political, societal) forces, are blind to the pattern that explains why things happen as they do. To see that deep pattern is to experience an awe impervious to cynicism because it is to stand in the presence of the God who is worthy of our fear and wonder. John’s vision of the One sitting on the throne and of the Lamb is permeated with their supreme worthiness and therefore by the awe of all who see them.” - Dennis Johnson
