Pastor's Corner - Growing Your Faith
Dear Friends,
As promised, I want to introduce our next book to read together: "Growing Your Faith - How to Mature in Christ" by Jerry Bridges. Jerry Bridges is my favorite author and theologian. Perhaps he is my favorite because he has had such a profound impact on my growth in Christ. The very first Christian book I ever read was "The Pursuit of Holiness." That book radically changed me as I then saw God's calling for my life, and the call for every believer, was to pursue holiness and grow in Christ.
Another reason that I appreciate many of Jerry Bridges’ works is because he is ruthlessly biblical in the way that he writes and applies the Word of God. Similarly, Bridges does yeoman's work by taking some of the old theologians and making their writings accessible and practical for everyday believers.
"Growing Your Faith" by Jerry Bridges is available from most online retailers and in ebook formats. I have selected this particular book by Bridges because of the uniqueness of the work. As Bridges will tell you in his forward to this book, "Growing Your Faith" is actually a compilation of eight different books written by him. His publishers recognized that many of his writings dealt with a believer’s growth in Christ, so why not take the main themes of those books and compile them into one. The result is a great book that I am certain will not only help you mature in Christ, but also, I hope, will whet your appetite to pick up other books by Jerry Bridges to read and study. His works are also excellent resources for small group study so consider selecting one of his books for your next Bible study.
