Dear Friends, We are just two weeks away from the launch of ABOUNDING. As we approach this special season in the life of our church and really hone in on our mission and vision as a body of Christ, I wanted to take some time to answer a question that was proposed to me recently. As I thought about this question it made me realize that not everyone will know the exact answer. The question is, "Why did Cornerstone decide to locate downtown?"  The answer to this question is threefold. First, it was at the heart of the core group that started Cornerstone to start a church in downtown Huntsville. As many of you know, Cornerstone started from a group that was organized out of Southwood Presbyterian Church. Southwood has helped start many churches in the metro area including: Valley in Madison, Christ in Hampton Cove and The Village in north Huntsville. It was always on their radar screen to one day start a work in the downtown community because around ten years ago, downtown was really starting to show signs of growth and progress. When I was a candidate to become the pastor of Cornerstone in 2013, this was the vision that was presented to me that really excited me.  The second reason we wanted a permanent location in the downtown community is because as our church body has grown, the Lord has brought people into our fellowship who live all over the Huntsville metro area. There are people driving from as much as 35-40 minutes away to get to Cornerstone each Sunday at our current location. Because of the unique demographic of our congregation, the need grew for us to find a permanent home that would be central, accessible and visible to both our current church family and future members of our family.  Last, the primary reason we are locating downtown is because we believe this is where God wants us to be. We know this because of the Lord's provision for us to be able to purchase property on Meridian Street in downtown Huntsville. When I first arrived in Huntsville in February of 2014, a group of church leaders immediately started to drive me around town and show me all the properties that could possibly serve as a location for our church. That began a nearly 5 year search to find a permanent home for Cornerstone. During that time, we looked at more buildings, locations and properties than I can count. We even went so far as to have an architect do a feasibility study on some of the properties to see if they might work for our church. As hard as we looked and as much due-diligence that we performed on many of these sites, the Lord kept closing doors. The Lord even closed doors in ways that I didn't even know was possible! Nevertheless, we continued to pray, seek the Lord and ask Him to lead us to the right piece of property.  And in the summer of 2018, the Lord answered our prayers and left a door wide open for us and allowed us to purchase the property downtown at 515 Meridian Street. We knew that it was God's will and His plan for us buy that property and begin to plan and prepare to build a new home there.  I can't wait to show you in a few weeks some of the beautiful conceptual designs for the new church building on our downtown property. I believe it is going to be a home that will help us grow in our mission as church that glorifies God for generations to come.
