Pastor's Corner

Dear Cornerstone Family and Friends,

We have now enjoyed two Sundays worshiping in our new home and two Sundays of devoting ourselves to the preaching of God's Word, the Sacraments and fellowship. These are wonderful blessings that God has given to us and we praise Him from whom all blessings flow.

As we continue our Fall sermon series on "Growing in Grace", this past Sunday we studied "The Power and the Promises of the Christian Life" from 2 Peter 1:3-4. This was an encouraging and yet challenging text. It is encouraging because we are reminded that we have a massive reservoir of God's grace from which to live the Christian life - and that is His power and His promises. God's power is a real power at work in the real lives of His people.

And we were also exhorted to look to God's great and precious promises as a deep well of God's grace by which to live the Christian life. But we were challenged because too often we tend to live life according to our problems and not according to God's promises.

Is that you? Are you living according to God's promises or are you focused on your problems?

If you are one who lives each day according to your problems and you let that dictate your feelings, your emotions, and your mindset, then how do you course-correct? ... How do you break this cycle? ...

The only way I know to do it is according to what God's Word tells us to do and that is to focus on His promises from His Word. The psalmist says, “Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.” (Psalm 119:97 ESV) We must meditate on God's Word and trust Him and look to His promises.

There is one MASSIVE promise I would like you to meditate on this weekend. It is found in Romans 8:32. I lot of people love and cling to Romans 8:28 and that is a good one but look at this one: “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32 ESV)

Do you realize that this promise means? ... It means that God has already met your greatest need, forgiveness of your sin through Christ atoning death. If He has done THAT -- how will He not also meet all your other needs?

God has, in Christ, granted to you all things that pertain to life and godliness through Jesus Christ so that you and I may be partakers of the divine nature. What a miracle! What blessing! What a promise! Don't you forget it!

See you Sunday!

by His grace and to His praise,

Pastor Wilson
