Pastor's Corner

Dear Church Family and Friends,

Happy Thanksgiving! It was in 1863 that President Abraham Lincoln declared a national holiday of Thanksgiving to be the last Thursday of the month of November. In his proclamation Lincoln said,

I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.

We have much to be thankful for! I am thankful to belong to a church like Cornerstone that loves Christ, loves His Word and loves each other. I am also thankful to be your pastor. I'm thankful for our mission to worship, grow and serve together to glorify God.

I'm thankful for the Lord's goodness to us this past year. Here are just a few examples:

  1. The Lord has protected us and allowed us to continue ministry in a pandemic.

  2. The Lord graciously showed us this past spring that it was not the time t0 build on our downtown property. As building costs were rising, it became clear that we should not move forward with our building initiative. But as always, God took what could have been a great discouragement and used it for good!

  3. God was faithful to provide an entire church facility that we now call home at 1413 McClung Avenue. There were at least two major efforts to purchase or use this property in Cornerstone’s past. God’s providential timing is always a blessing!

  4. The body of Christ at Cornerstone rallied together in a remarkable way to renovate our new home and prepare it for ministry.

  5. We had a team of over 30 people participate in the Joni and Friends Family Camp this past summer.

  6. As our expenses started to rise, and we were absorbing renovation costs of our new facility, the Lord graciously provided a way for us to exit our lease early on the Martha Pullen building.

  7. And finally, our new church home afforded us the opportunity to not only resume Sunday School but grow our Sunday School ministry to children and adults.

These are just a few of many ways the Lord has lavished on us His goodness and grace to us this past year. I'm looking forward to celebrating with all of you in thanksgiving this Sunday. Please join us for worship and then a fellowship meal in the Family Life Center following the 2nd worship service.

See you Sunday!

by His grace and to His praise,

Pastor Wilson
