Pastor's Corner
Dear Church Family and Friends,
This past week an unprecedented thing happened in America - a draft opinion of a Supreme Court decision was leaked. Even more surprising was the Supreme Court issuing a statement that the draft was in fact legit but that it was in no way a final decision.
Christians naturally are very excited about this potential decision. If the decision comes down as expected, then an injustice will be corrected in our country. Life will be protected in the womb on a federal level. Anytime something like this happens we should celebrate because God “loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.” (Psalm 33:5 ESV)
As thankful as I am that Roe v. Wade will be potentially overturned, we, as the Church, need to affirm a few things:
- First, pro-life laws and Supreme Court decisions are not where we place our hope. Our hope is in Christ alone.
- Second, pro-life laws and Supreme Court decisions are not where we find truth and assurance. God's indelible Word is where we discover the truth of life, identity and all such concerns.
- Third, we will never find a Savior in the three branches of the United States government. Our hope must be in Christ and Christ alone and the promises that He has made to His Church.
- Fourth, the work is not done. We must continue to advocate for life and the protection for "the least of these" by advancing a Biblical world-view that all of life is sacred and has inherent value as created by God. We must continue to preach the Gospel that permeates to all of life - especially as it relates the Imago Dei. This is a great time for the church to come alongside women (and men) who may be facing difficult pregnancies and helping them in tangible ways. This is one of the reasons we partner with Huntsville Pregnancy Resource Center. Check them out to learn was to serve.
I do hope and pray that this is an answer to prayer: that Roe v. Wade will be struck down. But this is not the answer to the ultimate prayer -- that prayer is that abortion would end.
Let's pray now that God will use this cultural moment to bring people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Let's pray that God would use this cultural moment to show the world that the Church is the most adamant supporter of life.
Let's pray that God would use this cultural moment to point folks to the truths of Scripture, not to the need to be more political.
There is much more to be said and to pray about with this matter. But let us not lose our focus on Christ and the mission that He has given us. There are still more disciples to be made and many that have not even been born yet!
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. (Psalm 139:13–16 ESV)
in Christ,
Pastor Wilson
