Pastor's Corner

Dear Church Family,

This summer has been hot! ... But the Psalms have been refreshing. I'm thankful that God's Word has been cool water!

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. (Psalm 63:1 ESV)

The Psalms are also helpful for reminding us the importance of God's Word to nourish our souls. Consider these bits of wisdom:

  • The Psalms remind us that blessing comes from meditating on the Word of God day and night. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.  (Psalm 1:1–2 ESV)
  • The Psalms remind us that the morning is the time we need God's Word afresh to get our day going in the right way.  Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.  (Psalm 143:8 ESV)
  • The Psalms light our way.  Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  (Psalm 119:105 ESV)
  • The Psalms remind us to hide God's Word in our hearts.  I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.  (Psalm 119:11 NIV11)
  • The Psalms give us truth.  The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.  (Psalm 119:160 ESV)
These are just a "few" of the ways the Psalms are good for our souls. Let me encourage you, if you are not spending time in God's Word daily, to start with the Psalms.

See you Sunday!

by His grace and to His praise,

Pastor Wilson
