Dear Church Family,

Have you ever been on a mission trip? Would you like to go on a mission trip? ... However you answered those questions, I would like to tell you about two opportunities for you to take a mission trip this summer. Even if you don't feel called to go, God can still use you to support sending teams from Cornerstone!

I have personally experienced both of these mission trips before, and I love them both. Both of these opportunities are a way for us to partner with some of our regional mission partners. Both of these trips are opportunities for us to fulfill our mission and vision as a church and to carry out one of our core values of missions and outreach.

The first opportunity is to go and serve as camp staff on the Joni and Friends Family Retreat: June 25-30, 2023. This is a wonderful experience to be with your church family and learn to minister to those with disabilities. This trip is very close, in Nauvoo, Alabama -- about an hour and a half away in west Alabama. If you would like to know more and sign up for this trip, please email: paige@cornerstonehuntsville.org. If you have never been on a mission trip before, this may just be the opportunity for you! Please find more information below.

The next opportunity is to fly out west and join our mission partner Sacred Road Ministries on the Yakama Indian reservation in south central Washington State. This mission trip is more advanced. If you are looking for an opportunity to stretch yourself, see a different part of our country, and learn how we can love our first neighbors well, then please consider joining us for one week, July 15-22, 2023 on the Yakama Indian reservation. There will be hands-on ministry opportunities to serve the community during the day and outreach ministry to kids in the afternoons. If you would like more information, please contact Kyle Mosier or Wilson Shirley at: office@cornerstonehuntsville.org. There are a few more spots available so sign up soon! Please find more information below.

As promised, I wanted to share this very helpful quote from John Stott's commentary on Romans regarding justification:

Justification … is the heart of the gospel and unique to Christianity. …
…No other system, ideology or religion proclaims a free forgiveness and a new life to those who have done nothing to deserve it but a lot to deserve judgment instead. On the contrary, all other systems teach some form of self-salvation through good works of religion, righteousness or philanthropy. …
… Christianity, by contrast, is not in its essence a religion at all; it is a gospel, the gospel, good news that God’s grace has turned away his wrath, that God’s Son has died our death and borne our judgment, that God has mercy on the undeserving, and that there is nothing left for us to do, or even contribute. Faith’s only function is to receive what grace offers.

See you Sunday!

by His grace and to His praise,
Pastor Wilson
