Pastor's Corner - A New Season

Dear Friends,

It's hard to believe that summer is almost over as August arrives and children go back to school. But with a new season comes a new season for ministry at Cornerstone. There are some exciting things coming up that I want to tell you about and remind you of.

Preaching! Our journey through Psalms 13-24 has been wonderful this summer. We have three more psalms left in this sermon series. I hope that you have been inspired and encouraged by God's Word to go deeper and to use the language of the psalms to fill your own time of personal worship as well as use the psalms to pray to God and commune with your heavenly Father. As we finish up this series on the Psalms, we will begin a new sermon series beginning September 1st on Paul's Epistle to the Colossians. This a rich book with rich Christology and application to our everyday lives. I'm looking forward to learning along with you.

FOUNDATIONS! Our Wednesday night program will start back Wednesday, September 11th. There will be fellowship and discipleship opportunities for the whole family. Our children will continue their journey through the Shorter Catechism - soaking up the doctrines of our faith. Our youth will learn about Prayer and how prayer and Scripture reading are a Christian’s daily sustenance – we simply cannot live without them. And finally, the adults are invited to join me for a study on Heaven: What the Bible Teaches About the Afterlife

Officer Election, August 11th. We will have a brief congregational meeting at the end of the service on the 11th to vote on men for the offices of elder and deacon. This is a unique privilege that members of a local church have. Please be in prayer for these men, their families and us as we undertake this solemn responsibility.

Bible Study. One of our core values at Cornerstone is discipleship - how we grow in our relationship with Christ by following Him. We have so many avenues to do this with preaching, Foundations and Sunday School. Additionally, we seek to do this with adults through small group Bible study. Our women have chance to do this on Tuesdays beginning this Fall. If you are interested in this time of discipleship, please contact Heidi Honeywell. Our men have the opportunity to do this through small groups that meet at various times throughout the week. If you are interested in being a part of a small group Bible study for men, please contact Bob Boerner.

I'm thankful for all these exciting opportunities that we have to grow as followers of Jesus this Fall. Let's be in prayer together.

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.  (2 Peter 3:18 ESV)

In preparation for the sermon:  "I do not hesitate to say that, according to the teaching of the New Testament, Jesus was indeed forsaken by God while he bore the sin of his people on the cross. This is the very essence of the atonement - Jesus bearing our hell in order that we might share his heaven." - James Montgomery Boice
Hymn of the week:  Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken
