Pastor's Corner
| Dear Friends, Last week I addressed the Scripture Reading portion of our service. Continuing in our series on our Liturgy or Order of Worship, we come to the midpoint in our service where we often have flexibility with what we do in this portion of the service. Before the Offertory and the Sermon, we usually have a piece of liturgy that relates to one of our core values. In case you have forgotten, our Cornerstone's values are: Worship, Discipleship, Care, and Missions. We may highlight missions at this time in the service where we will interview and pray for one of our missionaries or missional partnerships. This is a wonderful time for our people to be connected with the ways in which our church supports missions and the way our church can be connected to missions. I'm so thankful for the many partnership that we have. You can learn more about those by clicking here. We also like to use this time for a Corporate Profession or Confession of Faith. What is the difference you may ask? A confession is where we corporately confess our sins together before the Lord seeking His forgiveness. Jesus taught us to do this. A profession of faith is where we profess or declare our faith together. We may use a creed or selections from the Westminster Standards that comprise the constitution of our church. We also may use this time for a Ministry Moment. This usually is a time we want to highlight discipleship opportunities in the church and ways to help us grow in our faith. Admittedly, this portion of the service is not hard and fast. We like the flexibility here to highlight many things that God calls us to care about. We may also omit this element entirely on Communion Sundays in order to have adequate time for preaching and for the Lord's Supper. This Sunday we have the wonderful opportunity to partake of the Supper together and meditate on Christ. Please pray and prepare! Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.
