Dear Cornerstone Family,

Our backyard has a muscadine vine that produced a nice harvest this year. When I would go out and pick the muscadines, I would approach from one side of the vine and see several muscadines— some that were ripe and ready to pick and others that needed more time. Sometimes after picking from the front side, I would wonder if I had gotten to all the ones that were ready. But one thing that I would do is walk around to the other side of the vine, and then I would discover that there were muscadines there that I did not see from the front side of the vine, that were just as ready to be picked.

It brought to mind that there are times in our lives when we may only see the front side of the vine, perhaps even leading to discouragement if we do not immediately see the fruit, while the God who gives growth sees the whole vine as He tends to and grows His people. This is certainly applicable in a lot of ways, whether it's in parenting, in discipleship of students, or in witnessing to a coworker. Let's encourage one another to keep surveying the vine, trusting the Vinedresser (John 15) as we join in the ongoing harvest of making disciples to which He has called us.

“For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up. So then, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:8-10)

See you Sunday!

Pastor Brian
