Dear Church Family and Friends,

Today I'm writing to announce to you some exciting news. The Session of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church has called Mr. John Summers to serve as an assistant pastor at Cornerstone.

As many of you know, John has been laboring around Cornerstone for years teaching and occasionally preaching. What you may not know is that John has been licensed to preach the Gospel in Providence Presbytery for six years now and has served in numerous pulpits around Providence Presbytery.

In addition to serving as an attorney for the U.S. Government, John has pursued theological degrees from the University of Chester in England over the years. As he has labored over these past years, John has sensed a call to ordained ministry so that he can continue his pulpit ministry but also serve the sacraments and perform other duties reserved for an ordained pastor. Additionally, John has expressed a desire to assist the Session in shepherding responsibilities. After affirming his sense of call and having seen his gifts tested over many years, the Session sees this as a great opportunity for John and for us.

Upon completion of his ordination trials with Providence Presbytery in November, we are hopeful John will begin to serve in this official capacity near the end of November. He will serve on the pastoral staff in a part-time capacity as he plans to continue to labor in his full-time day job as an attorney. His official title will be Assistant Pastor of Discipleship. His duties will consist of teaching and preaching, assisting in worship, and overseeing the adult Sunday School program.

Please join me in praising God for this wonderful blessing for Cornerstone and John. Please pray for John and his family as he takes up this new call.

See you Sunday!

by His grace and to His praise,

Pastor Wilson
